The saga continues in Fall River.
Federally indicted incumbent Mayor Jasiel Correia may be down but he is not out. The voters have spoken and Correia will face off against School Committee member Paul Coogan — who handily defeated Correia and Erica Scott-Pacheco in Tuesday’s preliminary — in the Nov. 5 mayoral election.
Election results rolled in on the heels of court hearings that same day where two of the mayor’s alleged ‘middlemen’ in a plot to extort four Fall River marijuana companies pleaded guilty in federal court. Correia is facing a slew of federal charges of bribery, extortion and tax and wire fraud while vying for a third term in office, having been arrested on 11 new charges Sept. 6.
As the dust from a busy Tuesday settled this morning, people took to Facebook and Twitter and had A LOT to say.
