PITTSFIELD — A Winchester man is facing a disorderly conduct charge after a social media post reportedly threatened Pittsfield students with a gun.
Dalton Parker, 20, of Winchester was arrested Monday, according to Pittsfield Police.
“Rumors around town have exaggerated the severity of the incident,” a police department statement said. “The Pittsfield Police Department takes any and all threats toward students and staff seriously.”
The threat against a group of Pikeland schools students involved a gun, according to the police department. A search of Parker and his vehicle did not find a weapon.
Pikeland schools Superintendent Paula Hawley said students were “proactive” and “did a nice job of alerting the proper authorities.”
The school district sent parents a message the next morning, notifying them of the incident and that law enforcement took action, Hawley said. A school resource officer also was available the next day to talk to students with information relevant to the investigation.
