Uttarkashi: Days after flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall caused major damage in several villages of Mori block in Uttarkashi district on August 18, several videos of vehicles falling in gorges due to landslides in the area have surfaced on social media..
It is alleged that these videos show the impact of disaster on the Arakot-Chiwan road in the affected Mori block region.
The first video is three minutes and 50 seconds long and it shows a car and a bus falling from a gorge after a patch of the road collapsed due to landslide. The other video, which is just 42-second-long, shows a truck falling into a gorge due to landslide on the same location.
Meanwhile, a few other videos of disaster and rescue operations are also going viral on the social media. These purported videos show the havoc caused by the disaster which claimed at least 15 lives in Uttarkashi.
Local villagers told TOI that the disaster has completely changed the geography of the region, which was blessed with immense natural beauty.
“The horrifying disaster has pushed back the development of the region and its people as it has severely damaged most of the agriculture lands, apple crops, cattle and basic infrastructure,” Tarun Chauhan, a local resident, told TOI.
