#LostTrumpHistory: Trump’s 9/11 claims mocked on social media

Social media users have taken to Twitter to mock President Trump’s claims that he too had taken part in the hellish post-9/11 response at Manhattan’s Ground Zero.

“Many of those affected were firefighters, police officers and other first responders,” he said at a signing ceremony extending the 9/11 victims compensation fund at the White House on Monday.

“I was down there also. But I’m not considering myself a first responder, but I was down there. I spent a lot of time down there with you.”

It’s not clear how much time, if any, President Trump spent in Ground Zero, as the area was quickly sealed off by law enforcement.

The remarks sparked a series of tongue-in-cheek tweets using the hashtag #LostTrumpHistory, with many users inserting the president into other historical events that he was not part of.

“In 2019, astronomer Donald Trump discovered that the Moon was a part of Mars,” posted George Conway, the outspoken husband of top White House aide Kellyanne Conway.

Other users followed suit, posting their own tweets.

While President Trump has not responded to the trending hashtag, his supporters jumped to his defence.

Australian conservative activist Nick Adams tweeted “President Trump did an ENORMOUS amount for New York after 9/11 and to claim he is lying is truly disgraceful.”

He added the president was not a politician at the time of the terrorist attack and “did not show up for photo ops.”
