BROKEN ARROW — These are women who find time to balance a busy life as a mom, while creating a career on social media.
Broken Arrow beauty blogger, Britney Davis shares everything from makeup tutorials to outfits of the day and lifestyle tips.
She’s a busy mom who has made social media her career.
“Friends would ask me what make up products I was using or hair or what different beauty stuff and I was like ‘OK, I’ll just post it and see how it goes,'” Davis says.
And it’s been going ever since 2014 when she began sharing videos of her makeup tutorials on YouTube.
A few years ago, Davis started posting to Instagram and now has nearly 13,000 followers.
She shares her outfits, products, and whatever else she’s loving that day.
So what separates an influencer from the rest of us?
“People will just start emailing you. You know? Like “Hey I see that you’re interested in this you know would you be interested in trying our product? And showing it? And stuff like that,” Davis says. “The bigger you get you can start charging for things or you can just take product. Then decide to show it, but definitely you always want to only show a product that you enjoy, you care about, and you use on the daily. So that’s what I do. I never show products that I don’t use or don’t like.”
Davis’ priority in all this is maintaining her authenticity but she realizes life on the internet can look deceivingly perfect.
“Instagram shows the perfect side of a lot of things but behind the scenes my living room is covered in toys,” Davis says.
For many influencers creating this kind of “picture-perfect” content takes a lot of work, and the money doesn’t start coming in overnight.
“It’s definitely not a get rich quick scheme, nothing like that whatsoever. When it comes to YouTube, you do get paid off of like google ads cents. You become a YouTube partner and get paid off of that. But the bigger money comes from different companies wanting to sponsor you,” Davis says.
Davis does a lot of local content too, posing in social media ads for local boutiques and collaborating with other local influencers.
“There’s a group of us girls and we’ve worked with different boutiques, food companies, and different stuff like that just to review products or go to different events. We are advertising but it’s also, like I said, important to do things that you love,” Davis says.
She says while it’s not an easy business to build, she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“If you’re into it though, and that’s your passion and something that you really want to do, there’s always a way to do it,” Davis says.
