Social media workshops to help small business owners

Big Island small business owners can learn how to maximize their social media presence and increase holiday sales during two upcoming social media classes in Hilo.

“How to Develop a Social Media Marketing Plan” is slated for 9-11 a.m. Friday (Oct. 26) at the Hawaii Innovation Center located at 117 Keawe St.

During the class, participants will gain insights into creating an effective online marketing plan and the top five key elements of a successful social media marketing campaign. They’ll also receive tips on why each social media platform requires its own unique approach and how to tailor their social media marketing plan to take advantage of the upcoming holiday shopping season.

“As with any part of business, implementing a social media marketing plan requires having a strategy,” says Denise Laitinen, class instructor and an award-winning social media trainer. “Many times, business owners don’t know where to start when it comes to marketing their business online or they go about it the wrong way and wind up frustrated with ineffective results.”

She added that by implementing an effective social media marketing plan, business owners are able to reach new audiences and increase sales.

“Instagram for Business 101” is scheduled for 9-11 a.m. Nov. 2 at the Hawaii Innovation Center.

This class will take attendees through the five key steps of using Instagram for a business and how to launch successful Instagram campaigns. Participants also will learn the importance of hashtags and how to use them effectively, ways to optimize their business profile and how to drive traffic to their website from their Instagram business account.

Laitinen, owner of DLC Hawaii Media and who was recently named the 2018 Small Business Administration Advocate for Media and Journalism in Hawaii County for her years of work helping small business owners with social media. also will teach the Instagram class.
